Is This The Most Eco-Friendly Body Wash Ever?

Plus Body Wash’s packaging dissolves in the shower.

We’ve been showering for decades, and in that time we’ve tried all forms and iterations of bar soaps and body washes. Other than gently cleansing our skin, they all had one thing in common: plastic. Bar soaps often come shrink-wrapped in plastic (sometimes twice!) while gel cleansers come in big and jumbo-sized all-plastic bottles. When you’re dealing with the moisture and delicate nature of a bathroom, there’s little room to innovate beyond what we know. That wasn’t going to stop the team behind the new body care brand Plus.

Out now, Plus’s body washes have truly reimagined the showering experience. The body wash comes individually wrapped inside a dissolvable sachet—no bottle needed. You simply tear open the package with dry hands, take the thin, foam-like body wash out of the sleeve, and then add water. Like magic (or just science), the body wash transforms into a thick, moisturizing lather in the palm of your hand.

And the outer sachet? Just throw it on the floor of your shower. The wood pulp-based packet dissolves in the water and it (safely) disappears down your drain. Even the storage and mailer packaging from Plus is compostable. The body washes must be kept dry, so you shouldn’t store them in a shower caddy or on the side of your tub. We like to keep them in the nearby vanity, though they would also be amazing for tossing in a travel or gym bag.

The Plus body wash comes in two scents—Waves (coconut) and Summer (citrus), as well as an unscented version called Cloud. We found that two Plus body washes might be needed if you love to smother yourself in cleanser, but one should be fine for most people. Each set covers 16 washes and costs $16.50, with the option to subscribe and save.

If you want to eliminate one more plastic item from your daily routine, Plus is an easy (and deliciously-scented) swap. We can’t wait for it to be available over here and hope to see shampoo, conditioner, and face cleanse get the Plus treatment in the years to come.
