Recreate Rihanna’s Iconic Met Gala 2021 Make-up Look

No stranger to a show-stopping fashion moment, Rihanna stunned the coveted Met steps with her take on this year’s theme: In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Donning an all-black ensemble by Balenciaga, she accompanies the dramatic silhouette with a black knit beanie over a layered diamond hairpiece and matching necklace. But in true Fenty fashion, her make-up look made its own statement as well—did we expect anything less? Fenty Beauty’s Global Makeup Artist,  Hector Espinal—the maestro behind the beauty look—spills all the products used to create this Met moment.

Of course the Queen of the Fenty kingdom was going to prep the skin with her inventive Fenty Skin collection. She starts off with the Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser, followed by dabs of the Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum and then sealing the skin with the versatile Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. Lastly, she bids adieu to any signs of eye bags and fatigue with a personal favourite, the Flash Nap Instant Revival Eye Gel-Cream.

Base

If you’ve ever wondered what shade Rihanna wears in the Fenty foundations, its 300! For the Met Gala, Espinal opts for the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation to ensure the complexion stays matte, flawless and camera ready throughout the long gala night. He sculpts her cheekbones by mixing “I$land Ting” and “Bajan Gyal” from their line of Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer. Achieve her barely-there but still radiant blush by mixing their Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in “Petal Poppin” and “Cool Berry”—not so much on the apples of the cheeks, Espinal works the blush slightly above the bronzer for a more dramatic, chiseled effect.

Eyes

Hector utilises two Snap Shadows to create this look: Smoky and Cool Neutrals, with both purple shades found in the palettes playing the protagonist role of creating that seductive pop of deep magenta on the lids. We also love the incorporation of the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in “Trophy Wife” that is tightlined on the bottom lid for a splash of regal opulence. He finishes off the eyes in dramatic fashion with their Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara.

Lips

Finishing off the look is the lips. Hector preps the pout beforehand with the Pro Kiss’r Lip-Loving Scrubstick—a great option for on-the-go exfoliation! Then he dresses the lips with the Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color in “Underdawg”, that we’re sad to hear is not available in Malaysia at the moment.
