The couture fashion shows always bring a level of hair and makeup dramatic flair deemed too wild, divisive, and/or polarizing for the buttoned-up seasonal runways. After all, there's nothing safe about sticking fresh bunches of flowers into hair, dashing shadow in primary colors all-around the eye, or pairing an Oscar-ready gown with nothing more than a loose ponytail and glossy lip. It’s easy to look at Dior’s beauty look and think: did they even use makeup at all? They actually used foundation, brow products, and a little eyeshadow—but the trick is to make it look as natural as possible. Backstage, makeup artist Peter Phillips used the Dior Forever foundation (and no powder!) to give the skin a flawless, semi-matte finish.
