3. Issey Miyake’s Tribute to Issey Miyake
Paying tribute to its founder, Issey Miyake choreographed a contemporary performance and featured a collection which celebrated sculpture, architecture and precision. Overseen by Satoshi Kondo, the brand’s Creative Designer, it showcased three-dimensional silhouettes and possessed highly technical designs.
As we all remember, Miyake’s designs always upheld a form of technological innovation and aesthetic authenticity. With his trademark pleating method which resembled origami, he truly left a mark on fashionable innovation.
The label also introduced a new material called ‘vegetable polyester’, which is more environmentally friendly as it does not use petroleum products.
Though no longer with us, we are certain his legacy is everlasting. In honour of Miyake, we remember his quote:
“Design is not for philosophy it’s for life. I believe there is hope in design. Design evokes surprise and joy in people.”
