Fashion editors worldwide will be rejoicing today at the news that, finally, Céline is launching its own online business.
The French fashion house, creatively helmed by Phoebe Philo, has decided that now is the time to embrace the world of digital sales through its own e-commerce site – marking the first time that all product categories will be available to purchase online. The new version of celine.com launches today in France, reports WWD, rolling out to the rest of Europe and the US in 2018, followed by Japan in 2019.
The website, which features that same sleek, minimal design that the brand is renowned for, will be the flagship online destination for Céline clothing, accessories, leather goods and jewellery, and will also offer customer services including collect in store, return in store or organise home collection.
“E-commerce is launching as planned with ambitious business objectives, but also as a key tool to increase visibility, recruit new clients and provide a full service to our clients who are looking for a global experience, mixing digital and physical touchpoints,” a spokesperson for the brand told WWD.
The LVMH-owned label has been slowly upping its digital presence this year; it joined Instagram in February (and has already amassed over 640k followers), and launched a WeChat account to reach Chinese customers in November.
