Khoon Hooi

Khoon Hooi’s Lunar New Year 2026 collection is the most contemporary we have seen coming from the veteran fashion designer. Among the traditional pieces with Khoon Hooi’s signature style, he has introduced new pieces that put a modern twist on festive wear. He brings playful elements to the classic pieces by incorporating denim, chequered prints, and polka dot brocades, or introducing unique necklines and shorter hemlines. There are sets, in which the pieces can be worn together for special occasions or separately for a more casual look throughout the year. It is a refreshing, relaxed approach from Khoon Hooi–one that he also lends to another Lunar New Year project, his collaborative collection with Dressing Paula.

We want to honour the blessings traditionally woven into Chinese art and architecture,” says You Sheng, creative director of family-owned fashion brand, Yuleza. Rizman Nordin and Ruzaini Jamil, the Malaysian design duo behind Rizman Ruzaini draw inspiration from the rich history and culture of Vietnam’s capital city. “It holds memory and momentum in the same breath. That tension — between what was and what is becoming — inspired our collection, Scion of Saigon ,” says the two. Rizman Ruzaini’s house codes, including elaborate embellishments and structured shoulders, are transposed onto traditional Vietnamese silhouettes such as the áo dài.

Mell by Melinda Looi
The Mellgolian collection by Melinda Looi takes on the design language of one of the oldest civilisations in history. It is a fitting source of inspiration to welcome the Year of the Horse as Mongolia has cultivated a reputation as the land of the horse; historically, the Mongols relied on horses to sustain their nomadic lifestyle, subsequently becoming known as some of the best horsemen in the world. The collection reimagines Mongolian traditional garb, from the bold vibrant prints to flowing, layered silhouettes, from Melinda Looi’s uniquely eccentric perspective.
Shop the collection at the Melinda Looi Concept Store at Eslite Spectrum, Starhill Gallery or online.

Melinda Looi

Like many of us, Melinda Looi spends her Lunar New Year holidays crowded around the television with her family to watch classic Hong Kong movies. For her family, Stephen Chow’s comedy, Kung Fu Hustle (2004), is the movie of choice–and a good one too! With hilarious action sequences, rapid fire witty dialogue, and true-to-life period costumes, Kung Fu Hustle has become a cult favourite and comfort watch for many around the world. It comes to no surprise that Looi wants to tap into the nostalgia it brings. Her collection, playfully named Looi Fu Hustle, offers modern, elevated versions of the garments seen on iconic characters, such as the Landlady, Fong, and more.
