Everything You Need to Know About The Fendi by Marc Jacobs Collection

Fendi by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs pays homage to Fendi’s iconic star-studded Baguette bag

In celebration of Fendi’s iconic Baguette bag’s 25th anniversary, the Italian luxury fashion house decided to partner with Marc Jacobs to reinterpret the bag. Taking inspiration from the object itself, the new capsule collection highlights the spirit of the Baguette and is reimagined in both clothing and accessories.

“In my opinion, Marc is the King of fashion in America. He is also a master of branding and experimentation, particularly with logos,” said Kim Jones, the Artistic Director of Womenswear for Fendi. He adds: “Here, Marc has designed a Fendi collection – it is not a collaboration, rather it is an interpretation. In it, there is a sense of freedom in excess and joy, where he was allowed to do whatever he wanted.

Marc Jacobs is a long-time friend and mentor to Kim Jones and this collection reflects both that personal relationship and the respect he holds for Fendi as a house and the birthplace of an iconic item

Everything you need to know about the capsule collection:

Marc Jacobs’ interpretation of Fendi is a collection that explores the Fendi iconic silhouettes and bags such as the Baguette and Peekaboo. Showcasing a reflection of New York – the city in which its place in pop culture history was sealed – the collection emphasises the romance between uptown and downtown, luxury and utility as well as excess and reality.

“I’ve got one word: Fendiroma. And it is one word! It is another land, this Fendiroma. And I’ve got two words: The Baguette. It’s a bag – and I am never one to shy away from an iconic bag,” said Marc Jacobs, Creative Director and Founder of Marc Jacobs.

The collection puts emphasis on the spirit of friendship and fun, reflecting the maker as much as the iconic item. Fendi by Marc Jacobs has a sense of celebration and enjoyment even for the wearer.

From glitter rhinestones to silver, and fluorescent yellow pervades, the collection is a mirror image of the glittering and gritty city of New York. Exaggerated, platformed, and oversized, their take on the Baguette itself is also out of the box with the grand silhouettes that are elongated and gleaming and repleted with multiple mini versions of itself attached.

For Jacobs, grand dimensions from another time are contrasted with the humble origins of today and in so doing banish notions of costume in his collection.

The capsule collection will be available in Fendi boutiques worldwide and on Fendi.com.
