Following his father Guccio Gucci’s death in 1953, newly appointed chairman Aldo Gucci was inspired to create a pair of loafers after a trip to New York, where he took notice of its popularity in America.

Upon Aldo’s return to Italy and inspired by the Equestrian lifestyle, the Horsebit Loafers were born.

Gucci’s simple reimagination of the loafer captivated many, making it a wardrobe staple that has consistently remained a favourite for 70 years.

In 2023, Sabato De Sarno presented a pair of platform Horsebit loafers as a part of his first collection as Gucci’s creative director. Throughout these different versions of the loafers, the prominent horse-bit remains, highlighting their versatility and ability to be adapted to different variations that the world has seen over the years.
