Met Gala 2026: The Best Dressed Women on the Red Carpet

Fashion is art!

How did the world’s biggest celebrities interpret this year’s Met Gala dress code, ‘Fashion is Art’? There was a moment on the red carpet when it was looking dire as we saw a spate of Halloween-esque costumes that were more suited for the 2019 Met Gala’s ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ theme. As late American fashion journalist André Leon Talley would say, we were on bleak street.

Fortunately, these women turned it all around with their looks. Well-researched looks included Hunter Schafer’s Prada ensemble, Charli XCX’s Saint Laurent gown, and Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo’s custom Jean Paul Gaultier masterpiece, respectively referencing iconic art works, Gustav Klimt’s painting Mäda Primavesi (1912/1913), Vincent van Gogh’s painting Irises (1889), and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. American painter Amy Sherald stood out for referencing her own painting Miss Everything (Unsuppressed Deliverance) (2013).

Meanwhile, there are thoughtful homages to the prestigious event’s theme, Costume Art, which highlights the intersection of fashion history and the body as a canvas. Athlete and style trailblazer Naomi Osaka made a bold choice with Robert Wun haute couture, revealing a dress etched with the human muscular system in blood red embellishment at the top of the stairs. Sabine Getty and Chase Infiniti also play with the idea, both bringing much-needed colour to the whole affair.
