There was a lot to take in at Miu Miu’s Spring 2022 runway show. From the frayed micro-mini skirts to the cropped sweaters they were styled with, the Italian brand had our unofficial uniform of the season covered. Upping the buzzy collection’s ante, the luxury house tapped fashion-favourite sneaker brand New Balance to create a pair of distressed but also very chic trainers for the catwalk. Now, months after their Milan Fashion Week reveal, the new collab is finally up for grabs – and we want them in every color. As one of New Balance’s most popular designs, the style was first introduced in 1988 as an everyday option, revered for its sleek racer silhouette. Since then, the sporty shoe has been re-worked in a range of different iterations that vary in fabrics and sole heights. Each style in the lineup is made from durable denim to align with the sneaker design’s laidback aesthetic. However in true Miuccia Prada fashion, they’re elevated with strategically-distressed trims to feign natural wear and tear. Each is stamped with Miu Miu’s logo, rather than New Balance’s model type, along the sneaker’s tongue – a key indicator that sets them apart from the OG. As for styling, what’s bound to be the next big It-sneaker, the key is keeping the pairings minimal, as demonstrated on the model when the collection debuted last December. While they may work best with athleisure or relaxed denim in your day-to-day life, don’t be afraid to wear them with soft suiting per the runways, too. Or a mini skirt.
