Barbie and Chanel? Yes, please!

The long-awaited summer movie “Barbie” has finally arrived! If you’ve seen it in theatres, you may have noticed some standout looks and accessories. Yes, the House of Chanel has collaborated with this iconic summer flick, and we’re not over it.

This momentous collaboration between the House of CHANEL and Oscar nominee Margot Robbie is everything and more. Robbie, who is also a House ambassador, made headlines for being cast as the “perfect Barbie”. The movie, directed and written by Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig introduces Barbie Land as an idyllic haven for flawless individuals unless one is going through an existential crisis or happens to be a “Ken”.

Symbolised as 2023’s summer flick, we couldn’t help but notice the stunning collaboration between CHANEL and Barbie for the latest film. The iconic fashion house has a long-standing history in the world of cinema, and this partnership only solidifies its influence in Hollywood.

In fact, the time and effort that goes into every detail in designing multiple costumes for Robbie’s character and a ski suit for Ken’s character (played by Ryan Gosling) make this film so enjoyable to watch. It’s clear that CHANEL’s dedication to excellence extends far beyond the runway and into every aspect of the fashion industry.

During a June 2023 interview, the actress/producer reveals, “You’ll notice a lot of CHANEL, Barbies like CHANEL! I’ve got some great CHANEL outfits in the film that I got to wear. The mentality with Barbie is that she has all the accessories—there’s always a hat or bow and earrings and jewellery. The jewellery is big in the way it would be on a doll: big necklaces and earrings. Hats are never for protection from the sun; they’re just another accessory, along with bags and shoes and all of it! It was really fun.”

Throughout the film, any fashion enthusiast will notice the five silhouettes imagined by Virginie Viard that perfectly showcase the iconic doll’s journey throughout the film. From three suits to a ski suit and a dress, each outfit perfectly captures Barbie’s style and personality.

Additionally, the accessories deserve to have their own moment too. You’ll find the signature quilted bags, the heart-shaped bag, and accessories from the shield-eyewear from the COCO NEIGE collection, holographic cuffs, costume jewellery, and hats from Maison Michel.

What made this collaboration so special is the dedication from Oscar-winning costume designer and friend of the House, Jacqueline Durran, in the film. She was given a selection of outfits in various shades of pink from the Ready-to-Wear, COCO BEACH, and COCO NEIGE collections imagined by Virginie Viard.

It’s definitely a Barbie world this summer, and we’re loving it.
