Next Spring, Get Ready To Sparkle

If you tend to save your sparkles for the festive season, then that’s all going to change next spring. In both London and New York, sequins have reigned supreme on the SS18 catwalks, coming in many incarnations, adorning shoes, dresses, trousers, blazers and accessories.

Instagram’s sparkle filter has done nothing to stop the sequin revolution either, with front-row regulars using it in their droves as they showed their love for Ashish, Emilia Wickstead and Victoria Beckham’s most sparkly offerings.

It all started with the very first show of New York Fashion Week – Tom Ford – which saw Gigi Hadid and Binx Walton strut down the catwalk in ruffled gowns complete with opulent sequin sleeves. He also showed a very glittery mini dress.

Then, Victoria Beckham presented what might just make for the shoe of the season – a colourful sequin-encrusted court shoe and a fairytale-worthy sequinned block-heeled loafer (of course six-year-old Harper has already tried them out). Next, Marc Jacobs made a case for long, loose-fitted sequin evening gowns.

In London, sparkle-loving Ashish, Halpern and Julien Macdonald were of course aboard the sequin train with their collections – we saw silver sequin suits, sheer glittery frocks and flared sequin trousers, but there were some surprises too. A rarely flamboyant Emilia Wickstead presented a few top-to-toe bronze glittery looks – long evening dresses complete with sequin T-bar heels and even a matching bag. Cool kids JW Anderson and Molly Goddard also couldn’t resist a splash of sparkle.

And finally, Gucci delivered a master class in sequins as it kicked off Milan Fashion Week today in seriously sparkly style complete with sequin gowns, jackets, turbans and even crystal-embellished tights.
