From the grid to the red carpet.
Words by Kerry Pieri
The precursor to any “best dressed” list right now is that we bow down to anyone bringing their A game “in these times.” Below see ten looks that stood out in a very chic Golden Globes crowd—from both coasts on red carpets and on Instagram. Nothing is the same but there are still ball gowns to dream about.
Anya Taylor-Joy
COURTESY
What: Custom Dior Couture and Tiffany & Co. Jewellery.
Why: The actress who made chess cool is stunning in an unexpected emerald hue set against platinum blonde hair. The plunging gown paired with a coordinating overcoat and heels feels like a modern nod to Old Hollywood.
Andra Day

What: Chanel.
Why: The Best Actress nominee, for her turn in “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” is stunning in a long grey silk tulle dress with a fully embroidered, sequin macramé bodice from the Haute Couture collection. It’s just the right amount of elegance and whimsy.
Elle Fanning

What: Gucci and Fred Leighton jewels.
Why: The fictional Catherine the Great brought all the drama in a mint green slip dress with crystal brooches and all the theatrical poses anyone could ever wish for.
Cynthia Erivo
COURTESY
What: Valentino Couture, Wempe earrings, and Maria Tash jewellery.
Why: Not everyone can pull off neon green and elbow length gloves, but not everyone is Cynthia Ervivo. The stylish actress isn’t afraid to take risks, and reportedly let Valentino be her guide for the evening, to very fun results.
Emma Corrin
What: Miu Miu.
Why: The breakout starlet is channeling her on-screen alter ego, Princess Diana in a bold shouldered velvet Miu Miu gown with a organza collar that the fashion-plate princess surely would have appreciated.
Regina King
COURTESY
What: Louis Vuitton and Forevermark jewels.
Why: If Regina King in silver sequins and black cut outs is the future—we’re looking forward to it. The director and actor is refined as ever in the fashion-forward gown with an ’80s futurism vibe.
Amanda Seyfried
What: Oscar de la Renta and Forevermark jewels.
Why: Custom Oscar in a pretty shade of spring tulips, off-the-shoulder and embroidered with taffeta pressed flora is just the kind of ultra-feminine classic red carpet pick-me-up everyone can use right about now. Mermaid hair is a bonus.
Julia Garner
What: Prada.
Why: With so much talk of an impending revival of the roaring ’20s, Garner is fully selling the idea in a flapper-worthy frock featuring a plunging front, intricate beading and drop waist. Double cuffs also by Prada complete the flawless look.
Lily Collins
COURTESY
What: Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello.
Why: A one-should dress with side cut-out gives a subtle nod to ’70s glamour, done up in multi-colored embroidery. It’s a new look for the actress and it’s very Talitha Getty on the riviera in the best way.
Tiffany Haddish
TODD WILLIAMSON/NBC
What: Alberta Ferretti.
Why: Haddish is bringing chainmail chicness in a custom strapless brown and silver embellished gown. It’s somewhere between Pierre Cardin in the ’60s and the knights of the round table and she looks fittingly strong and beautiful.
