Modern elegance at Tod’s Spring/Summer 2024.
For Tod’s Spring/Summer 2024, Walter Chiapponi underscored the “essentiality of design and the quality of Italian craftsmanship”, celebrating the “excellence of Made in Italy”—a fundamental ethos at Tod’s. The show was held at the Laboratori Scala Ansaldo where the production of Don Carlos, scheduled for premier at the Teatro alla Scala, was being carefully assembled. Amidst the monumental stage props, artisans from Tod’s worked away at their station, crafting Tod’s iconic bags and shoes on site. The atmosphere, abuzz with excitement and awe at the elaborate set, provided the perfect stage for Chiapponi’s final bow at the Italian House.
This season, Chiapponi focused on the essence of construction with notable references to the masculine silhouette of the male wardrobe and the sleek insouciance of ’90s minimalism. In this instance, traditionally tailored pieces were reimagined with precision, using varying cuts, volume and lush materials to accentuate softness and fluidity imbued with attitude and bold femininity. Sartorial pieces were unlined and deconstructed, creating a soft and elegant silhouette; crochet-effect knitwear in contrasting colours highlighted the essence of craftsmanship; and sheer fabric contrasted with heavier materials lent an air of sensuality. Elsewhere, large multi-purpose belts cinched at the waist offered practicality whilst accentuating the female silhouette, while acidic touches of lime green added zest to timeless, natural colours.
