You’re Invited to Carine Roitfeld’s Star-studded Virtual Fashion Show This Friday

Director Carine Roitfeld found a safe place to produce a fashion show amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic: online. Roitfeld has previously helped raise millions of dollars for AIDS research through her annual Cannes amfAR galas. And this Friday at 4 p.m., she’s teaming up with amfAR once again for Fashion Unites, the first ever self-filmed fashion show, which will bring together an all-star lineup that includes Kim Kardashian West, Hailey Bieber, Carolyn Murphy, Natasha Poly, Eva Herzigova, Ashley Graham, Anok Yai, Winnie Harlow, Stella Maxwell, and Halima Aden.

The show aims to raise awareness for research efforts led by the newly created amfAR Fund to Fight COVID-19, while also offering 30 minutes of uplifting entertainment for everyone doing their part to flatten the curve by staying home. It will feature looks the models pulled from their own closets in video consultation with Roitfeld, as well as messages of gratitude for front line workers—“all the nurses, doctors, EMT workers, truck drivers, grocery store workers, and everyone else who is keeping us going and helping people during this unprecedented time,” as Maxwell puts it. Of course, getting models runway ready while social distancing presents its own host of challenges. Sam McKnight and Tom Pecheux are providing direction on hair and make-up remotely, but the models will be left to handle the execution on their own. Herzigova for one isn’t worried. “I think Tom will be very satisfied with my one minute smokey eye look,” she says.
