Behold the Chronomat Malaysian Edition, Breitling’s Unique Tribute to Our Heritage and Independence

The spirit of Merdeka starts early this year with Breitling’s special tribute to our country’s 68 years of independence.

Breitling has unveiled the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 Malaysia Edition, a limited timepiece celebrating 68 years of Malaysian independence. Only 68 pieces will be produced, each one a carefully considered tribute to the nation’s cultural identity.

The watch features a dark blue satiné soleil dial. This shade references the deep blue of the Jalur Gemilang, the Malaysian flag, that symbolises harmony and unity. However, the most distinctive element lies in the Eastern Arabic numerals used throughout. These appear on both the hour markers and date disc, acknowledging Malaysia’s multicultural heritage and Islamic connections.

Red gold indices, hands, and logo provide warmth against the blue dial. Meanwhile, yellow GMT text and a red-tipped GMT hand echo the Jalur Gemilang’s colours. The result is a design that feels intentional rather than decorative.

“Malaysia holds a special place in Breitling’s story in Southeast Asia,” said Alvin Soon, president of Breitling Asia. “With this Malaysia Edition, we wanted to create something that not only celebrates 68 years of independence but also captures the nation’s distinctive character—its diversity, resilience, and forward-looking spirit. The Eastern Arabic numerals, the dial’s deep blue tone, and the warm red gold accents all reflect that blend of tradition and modern sophistication that makes Malaysia unique.”

Technically, the watch delivers what serious travellers expect. The Breitling Calibre 32 movement is COSC-certified and offers GMT functionality for tracking a second time zone. The 40mm stainless steel case is water-resistant to 200 metres. Paired with Breitling’s signature Rouleaux bracelet, it maintains the versatility the Chronomat line has become known for since its 1983 debut.
