Explore Kinome Isetan for some affordable omakase in Kuala Lumpur

Kinome at Isetan: where omakase becomes accessible

If you’re on the lookout for a new eatery to explore come 2026, Kinome at Isetan The Japan Store deserves your attention. This latest opening brings casual omakase dining to Kuala Lumpur with a refreshingly democratic approach to what has traditionally been an exclusive culinary experience.

Named after the tender Japanese tree bud, Kinome translates its botanical inspiration into a dining philosophy centred on seasonality and simplicity. Fresh ingredients arrive weekly from Japan, ensuring authenticity without compromise. Also, at the open sushi counter, diners witness the theatre of preparation as chefs expertly slice sashimi and shape nigiri by hand.

Uniquely, what sets Kinome apart is its pricing structure. Omakase begins at RM188 for a nine-course menu, rising to RM398 for eighteen courses. Thus, this tiered approach makes the format accessible whether you’re seeking a quick yet refined lunch or marking a milestone occasion. In essence, each set opens with an appetiser or soup and concludes with dessert, offering a complete journey through Japanese culinary traditions.

More than just omakase

Beyond omakase, the à la carte selection showcases warayaki sashimi—fish seared over rice straw flames for a smoky exterior that contrasts with its raw centre. Sushi varieties span from akami and toro to aka ebi and hotate, all prepared to order. But for those wanting something substantial, the chirashi don delivers fresh seafood over rice in a single bowl. Alternatively, the signature Tri-Don presents three types of premium fish, whilst the Kaiho Don offers a generous interpretation of this classic.

Meanwhile, Japanese handrolls provide a more casual option. Fillings range from chopped bluefin tuna with pickled radish to tiger prawn with ohba. And each bite combines premium ingredients with satisfying textures.

At Kinome, its minimalist design throws focus on the ingredients themselves. So why wait? Located on the fourth floor alongside Mitsumori, Jyu Jyu Yakiniku, The Tokyo Restaurant, and Yakitori Robataya-Yaki Touan, Kinome operates daily from noon to 11pm, with a break between 3pm and 6pm.
