‘Stranger Things’ Eddie Munson is Getting an Origin Story in ‘Flight of Icarus’

Stranger Things fans – listen up. Eddie Munson is finally getting an origin story, and we’re all here for it.

If you were devastated by Eddie Munson’s fate in Stranger Things (like us), you could hold on to this fan-favourite character a little longer. Yes, Eddie Munson is set to get his prequel story. Only this time, it’s in the form of a novel written by author Caitlin Schneiderhan.

Brilliantly portrayed by Joseph Quinn, the metalhead has won the hearts of many with his standout character. If you watched Stranger Things, you would know why.

As a leader of Hawkins High School’s Hellfire Club, he embraces his passion for heavy metal music and devotes his time to Dungeons & Dragons. Some may call him a “freak”, but his down-to-earth personality goes unnoticed. Most importantly, his sweet bond with Dustin Henderson (played by Gaetano John Matarazzo). Despite joining the Netflix phenomena so late, the lovable character gave every fan a chance to love him in nine episodes.

If you’re still holding on to Eddie Munson, you won’t have to wait until the final season of Stranger Things to hear more about the character.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new book ‘Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus’ will be released on 31 October 2023.

What is Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus about?

Flight of Icarus is written by Caitlin Schneiderhan, who is currently serving in the show’s final season writers’ room. Set in 1984 and two years before the events of season four, the book explores Eddie Munson’s character, his relationship for music and his estranged father.

The story follows Eddie as he meets a record producer named Paige with hopes of achieving his musical dreams with his band Corroded Coffin. In order to do that, all he needs to do is to give a demo tape of the band’s best songs, except money is a problem. Later on, we see Eddie forced his way to dabble in his father’s shady business dealings to pay for his dream.

As an ode to the heroic character, the book cover features Eddie’s iconic yet familiar pose. He is illustrated with his head thrown back to the sky as he shreds on the guitar playing Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.”

Cue the tears because it was this particular moment that glorified him as one of the greatest heroes.

Quoted from Entertainment Weekly, Schneiderhan shared, “The Eddie Munson we meet at the beginning of Stranger Things 4 is the protective shepherd to the nerdy lost sheep of Hawkins High. But taking on that mantle wasn’t such a cut-and-dry decision. I’m so excited for fans to go with him on his journey towards becoming a hero, to experience the messy and uncomfortable decisions that led him to become the brave misfit we all know and love.”

With the announcement of this prequel, we can’t wait to dive deeper into the loveable character. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to reconnect with him, but at least we can hold on to Eddie Munson for a while.
