Suits Will Continue Into Season 8 Without Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams

USA Network

After a long delay, Suits has officially been renewed for an eighth season, with USA confirming the drama will continue without two of its core cast members, Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle. In the wake of Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry in November, USA confirmed the actress would leave the show after its seventh season, but did not confirm additional reports that Adams—who plays Markle’s on-screen love interest Mike Ross—would also be departing.

Show creator and executive producer Aaron Korsh will be back for the eighth season, as will Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen), Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt), and Dulé Hill (Alex Williams), who has been upgraded to a series regular.

Exciting though it is to have more seasons of Suits confirmed, this is a bitter pill to swallow for fans who have become invested in Mike’s storyline as a fake-lawyer-turned-real-lawyer—and in his mentor-protégé relationship with Macht’s Harvey.

“I would like to thank Patrick and Meghan for their extraordinary contributions over the last seven years,” said Korsh in a statement. “Not only have they been outstanding in their roles as Mike and Rachel, they are also superb human beings who will always be beloved members of the Suits family, and we wish them well in their days to come.

“Speaking of days to come, I am incredibly excited to welcome back our phenomenal crew and cast—Gabriel, Sarah, Rick and Dulé—who will continue the roller coaster ride with all of our amazing fans. Season 8 will have everything from shifting alliances and internal power plays, to secrets, betrayals and fiery relationships. Keep an eye out for an adversarial new character that will give Harvey a run for his money.”
