Chants for encore—calling all arts, culture, and theatre lovers!
After a four-year operational pause, Encore Melaka is back, revealing a new season full of cultural extravagance. Aligned with its goal to offer an enthralling cultural and entertainment experience, the theatre reopens on 7th July 2024.
You might wonder what sets Encore Melaka apart from other performance spaces. The answer might surprise you. This spot is an architectural marvel, featuring a unique 360° rotating auditorium. In fact, it’s Southeast Asia’s largest theatre, solidifying its spot on your must-visit list.
BAZAAR was thrilled to receive a special invitation to visit Encore Melaka. As we travelled to Melaka for the press conference, we had the chance to watch a few teasers of what was to come.
World-Class Performance.
Undeniably, the beauty of its show lies in its seamless combination of history and modernity as well as technology and art. All presented through a comprehensive showcase of lights and sound. The 70-minute performance blends music, dance, drama, and multimedia technology.
Despite currently offering only one show, maintained from the previous season, the production incorporates new elements to enrich the stories. Each lifting the values of Malaysia, the performance embraces our ethnic diversity and touches on the rich heritage of Melaka.
Top-Notch Technology.
Indeed, Encore Melaka’s technology is unparalleled, featuring brand-new lighting, audio, and sound systems that fully captivate the audience. Moreover, the 360° rotating auditorium and 240m-long stage create endless possibilities for how future stories can be told.
Keeping all of us captivated, the theatre features a water and mist stage with over 1,000 water sprinklers and six lifting platforms that rise up to 6 metres. As the seats rotate, the stage unveils dynamic and seamless scene transitions that support the narration.
Story of Perseverance.
When Encore Melaka first shut down due to the MCO (Movement Control Order), the team thought that would be their last performance. For the past four years, the theatre kept running tests to ensure all equipment remained in top condition. Their unwavering determination and faith bear fruit as they rebuild stronger, finally announcing their return.
Moreover, the pandemic shifted their mission towards collaborating with local production and creatives. The diverse cast is locally hired, showcasing their commitment to uplifting the creative industry.
