What initially inspired your dream to become a filmmaker and creative, and how has that dream evolved over time?

Roanne: Storytelling has always fascinated me, especially as a way to show the many sides of human experience and emotion. Initially, I was fascinated by how filmmakers were able to create whole worlds that explored hidden and nuanced realities. Over time, my dream evolved from simply recording stories to creating those stories through various forms—film, fashion, and art to highlight the beauty in the unexpected and sustainability in creativity.

How does your interest in ‘sustainable’ accessories and used goods relate to your creative vision?

R: Buying used items and making sustainable accessories feels like a full-circle experience. I take what is discarded or underappreciated and transform it into something unique. It is in line with my vision to create beauty responsibly, accept items with history, and encourage a change in thinking towards sustainability and authenticity in fashion.

Why is buying second-hand an important part of your trip, and what do you love most about it?

R: It’s like a treasure hunt; I find inspiration in things that have a past life and turn them into a wearable art form. I love that each item has its own story, and I can interpret and add to it, making my creations very personal.

How do you stay open to new opportunities and keep your creativity flowing in various fields?

R: I keep my mind and schedule flexible. I explore various creative fields because they are closely related to each other, keeping my vision fresh and my skills adaptable. Reading, travelling, and being around creative people from different disciplines helps me stay inspired.

What makes you excited to create a unique, sustainable fashion piece?

R: It’s the unknown journey in the process. I rarely start with a solid draft or plan; instead, I let each piece reveal itself to me. I might start with scrap plates or used fabric and start experimenting—there’s freedom in following the direction those materials take.

This flowing process means that each creation feels organic and more unique as if it’s forming its own identity along the way. Unpredictability is what makes every project so thrilling.

How do you balance running a home business with your creative pursuits?

R: To be honest, I’m still finding the balance! Running a business from home while working on creative projects can feel like a balancing act at times. However, as a creative, I thrive on shifting focus from one project to another—it helps me keep my energy fresh and the ideas flowing.

I try not to focus too much on any single task; instead, I let myself move between making accessories, film concepts, and modelling. It’s an ongoing process, but this flexibility keeps my creativity alive in every project I work on.

What advice would you give to someone exploring various creative avenues like you?

R: I always have to remind myself of my own advice — Trust the pull of every path and pursue it without forcing a specific outcome. Don’t worry about trying to match everything in a perfect box. Let each effort take shape on its own and see how they begin to influence each other naturally.

What gives you the most satisfaction when it comes to sharing your creations with the world?

R: I’m always nervous about sharing my work— my imposter syndrome definitely kicks in. But I have to remind myself that I do it because it feels right to me; it’s my way of expressing what sometimes I can’t put into words. The satisfying part is when other people feel a resonance with it and maybe see a part of themselves in what I create.

Sometimes, people reach out to me with questions or reflections that help me see my work from a new perspective. I love that this opens up space for dialogue, where the meaning expands beyond myself.

In what ways were you able to combine your various interests in filmmaking, fashion styling, and accessory making?

R: The one thing that ties it all together is that they are all forms of storytelling. Whether it’s a movie scene or an accessory, it carries a story—a glimpse into a character, mood, or idea I want to convey.

Although they may seem like different mediums on the surface, at their core, they’re all about connecting with others through stories. I’m able to layer a narrative across each of these art forms, and that gives my work a depth that I couldn’t achieve if I just focused on one.

What’s next for you in your creative journey?

R: After a year of writing, I just completed my first film draft! It’s very different from what I’ve done before, so I’m excited about it. At the same time, I am creating a new collection for Aenrostudio, with each piece made by hand from scratch, which keeps my hands and creativity busy.

Also, I am currently involved in more modelling projects. It’s a full and busy schedule, but each project has its own energy, and I’m excited to see where they all go.
