What is the plot behind IT: Welcome to Derry?
Set in the world of Stephen King’s IT universe, the prequel series takes inspiration from King’s IT novel. IT: Welcome to Derry transports viewers back to 1962—27 years before the events of IT Chapter One—where we’ll dive into the stories behind the town’s history and genesis of Pennywise.
A key event in the series is the burning of a nightclub called Black Spot, founded by black soldiers and locals, which was torched by a white supremacist group known as the Maine Legion of White Decency. This attack, which is implied to be influenced by Pennywise, plays a massive role in the unfolding of the plot. Not only do we see the mysteries behind countless disappearances, but we also see a meteor crash to Earth—what does this mean? Well, you’ll have to watch it to find out.
