Are you Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah?

It’s not summer without a trip to Cousins.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” has officially taken over our feeds, and for its last final season, the anticipation runs high. Starring Lola Tung as Isabel ‘Belly’ Conklin, the Amazon Prime Video series, based on the book by Jenny Han, has soared with its universal themes of love, friendship, and family dynamics. With social media buzzing about picking the right team to support, it’s no surprise that viewers are divided between the Fisher brothers.

If you haven’t seen the show, it’s not too late to catch up on the dynamics between Belly and the Fisher brothers–Conrad and Jeremiah. The story follows Belly’s summer adventures at Cousins Beach, where she spends time with her lifelong family friends. Central to the narrative is the classic love triangle involving Belly and the brothers. Belly’s lifelong crush on Conrad takes her through many moments and hurdles. However, the second season has made sure that their relationship is completely over before Belly realises that Jeremiah is the one for her. With its final season around the corner (literally), the third season gives us a glimpse into Belly’s junior year of college with Jeremiah. If you haven’t read the book, our aim is not to spoil your day with major details, but let’s just say that multiple events are coming your way this season.

Adored across all ages (and myself included), the series has its way of reeling you into its world. As a millennial and someone who is happily married, the series offers that comforting element of summer fun, discovering love, heartbreak, and creating lasting memories. It all seems too familiar, like a nostalgic moment. Through Belly’s POV, we’ve seen the good and the bad, but it’s also time for us to embark with Belly on this journey to finding her soulmate. Will it be Conrad or Jeremiah? I guess we’ll just have to find out.

BAZAAR Says: Team Conrad or Jeremiah?

Amalina Anuar, Digital Director

Team Conrad

Belly and Conrad have been through so much together. I have to admit that in season one, Conrad showcased a tough exterior that had us all in a jumble of emotions but he was dealing with family issues on his own. He cares about Belly; he just doesn’t show it well. I do agree that they need to work on their communication skills, but I still believe Conrad is the better choice for Belly. He puts other people’s happiness over his and continues to work on himself, even if it hurts him. He truly knows her, sees her for who she is and cares for her deeply. Remember when he recalled her favourite candy? It’s all in the details, guys.

Team Conrad

I’m Team Conrad because beneath the broody exterior is someone who loves fiercely and feels everything so intensely, and his relationship with Belly is something that just clicks, and it doesn’t feel forced—it’s a timeline that gradually grew. Their history, the emotional struggles and all the love exuded show that despite it all, there’s something worth fighting for when it comes to Conrad. And, I think once Conrad moves past his emotional terrain and figures out his life, he’d be the perfect man for Belly. The whole spectrum of it all is on the fact that Conrad didn’t communicate properly, so I think if that dynamic shifts, everything will be set in place.

While Conrad may not have been the perfect boyfriend—and their communication definitely had its flaws—there’s just something about the connection between him and Belly that feels so real and effortless. It’s like they just get each other without even trying. There’s a depth and authenticity there that you can’t ignore.

With Jeremiah, everything feels a bit forced. I don’t really see the same emotional layers in their relationship (or maybe I just don’t vibe with him in general). And honestly, I’m a sucker for a guy who yearns—and no one does that better than Conrad. He’s more my type anyway, so yeah… I’m solidly Team Conrad.
