Your Must-See Fashion Exhibitions of 2022

In 2022 there are a lot of fashion exhibitions to enjoy. From Salvatore Ferragamo Exhibition: Women In Balance, a tribute to Wanda Ferragamo in Florence, to a focus on an extraordinary collection of nearly 200 hats by Christian Dior in Granville to round out the year. 1. Salvatore Ferragamo Exhibition: Women In Balance

To honour Wanda Miletti Ferragamo, the artistic mind who contributed to the luxury Italian fashion brand Salvatore Ferragamo from 1960 until her death in 2018, a new exhibition comes to life in Palazzo Spini Feroni in Florence. The exhibition ‘Women in Balance’ was curated by Stefania Ricci and Elvira Valleri, and made possible by the Ferragamo family, who wanted to share Mrs Ferragamo’s inspirational story with the rest of the world.

2. Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear

Fashioning Masculinities is the first V&A exhibition to celebrate the power, artistry, and diversity of masculine attire. Ranging from the grandeur of European courts to the creative triumphs of modern style. The exhibition will examine how designers have portrayed masculinity. Across three curated galleries, you can see a variety of looks and artworks, with highlights including Donatella Versace and Alexander McQueen outfits, as well as David Hockney photographs.

3. Musée Yves Saint Laurent

The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris took a new way to showcase the couturier’s work to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the House of Yves Saint Laurent’s first couture show. If you, like us, are an aficionado of fashion history, this museum should be on your itinerary! You can see dozens of canvas prototypes and patterns, including over 300 sketches that highlight the influence of the visual arts on Yves Saint Laurent’s work.

4. Gianni Versace Retrospective

The Gianni Versace Retrospective at the Groninger Museum honours one of the most influential couturiers of all time. This vibrant, daring, and spiritual exhibition plunges visitors into the world of the eccentric Italian fashion designer’s extravagant clothing and lavish catwalk shows, where apparel, pop music, and design collide wonderfully.

5. Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and Their Legacies

Dior + Balenciaga: The Kings of Couture and Their Legacies features Christian Dior and Cristóbal Balenciaga, the two most influential couturiers of the mid-20th Century. This will be the first exhibition to interweave the work of these legendary designers, featuring nearly 70 garments and ensembles drawn entirely from The Museum at FIT’s permanent collection.

6. Musée Christian Dior

For the 2022 season, the Christian Dior Museum in Granville will devote its entire exhibition to the creative force and purely artistic dimension of the Dior hat. This exhibition is a world first: an extraordinary collection of nearly 200 hats will interact in “total look” with thirty Haute Couture Dior dresses, along with 50 fashion photographs as well as beauty and make-up ads celebrating hat art.
