BAZAAR’s Pick: Uniquely Designed, The Chow Kit

Prev1 of 3

Numerous films come to mind as the doors to The Chow Kit opens, revealing the artefacts and paintings decorating the space. Art curated by Liza Ho and Studio Tack design practise Brooklyn, the aesthetics, culture, energy and feel of the area is integrated into this hotel with the use of Art Deco. The personality of the tin tycoon, Loke Chow Kit himself, is consolidated into this space.

The Chow Kit Hotel calls itself a simplified luxury hotel as a lot of thought has been put into each and every aspect of the travellers’ stay. Welcoming with warm smiles are receptionists fashioning their bespoke uniform by Shan Shan Lim, designing comfort into chic for everyday wear. Over the dining area and Art Deco bar are tiffany light fittings in the shape of the Chinese tang long, giving a sleek look harmonising with the high ceilings. Arrive at the floor desired via the gold, reflective, Art Deco elevator. The hotel guide in each room are locally designed and printed by Alphabet Press, and the refillable water bottles served on beautiful ceramic by Bendang Studio. The room of maroon and dark green colours, accompanied with dim romantic lighting, provides a cosy atmosphere to the stay. Enjoy showers with products of natural ingredients before drawing the blackout curtains for the night, and let the soft comfortable bed envelop the tired body.
