Indulgent Nostalgia at Four Points Sheraton, Chinatown

Indulgent Nostalgia at Four Points Sheraton, Chinatown

It’s the beauty of Malaysia’s rich heritage meets luxurious hospitality

Facade of Four Points Sheraton, Chinatown

I drove pass all my usual landmarks heading to KL’s city centre on my way to Four Points Sheraton, not knowing this 318-room brightly-lit building is located right smack in the middle of the bustling Chinatown neighborhood. This stylish hotel welcomed guests at the last quarter of 2019, marking the 3rd Four Points by Sheraton property in Malaysia. With just a short walk to the artsy Central Market and the tourist-popular area of Petaling Street, I checked into my spacious Deluxe King guest room with a long to-do list, excited to begin my little city adventure.

Arrival Lobby

Stepping into the Arrival Lobby immediately brought back some fond childhood memories, reminiscing to the times I’d play with my cousins around my grandparent’s Penang house. “Efforts, in all details, have been consciously made to capture the essence of Chinatown, its’ trade and livelihood of the days gone by,” says Dato’ Choy Wai Hin, Owner of Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown. Traditional Chinese motifs infiltrate the walls of the hotel, bringing the true essence of Chinatown to life as soon as you enter its doors. From the surrounding wallpaper to the choice of furniture that decorate the common area, you will soon come to realize the immense thought that went into every single aspect of the property.

Whether you choose to escape the busy streets with some peaceful quality time in the guest room or discovering the city’s many hidden gems a stone’s throw away, Four Points Sheraton Chinatown has you covered. With spectacular views overlooking the expanse of Chinatown and the city of Kuala Lumpur, spending time indoors and experiencing the unparalleled comfort the hotel offer was my choice. When the sun started to set and the blazing heat slowly faded to warm breezes, a relaxing stroll to nearby speakeasy spots and secret cafes was the perfect way to end my day.

Besides the brand’s signature Four Points by Sheraton Comfort Bed that promises a good night’s sleep, unique touches like the customized wall art by Malaysian artist Loka Made beautifully portrays the stories of the livelihood, craft and trade of the neighborhood community.

Channeling the true essence of the Malaysian culture, it’s never complete without the accompaniment of authentic Malaysian food to tie the experience together. At Four Points Sheraton Chinatown, just like Malaysia, variety of food come in abundance and gastronomical experiences are heightened by its surrounding. At Lady Yi’s Tea House located on the lobby lounge floor, discover the unique taste of the Straits with the hotel’s signature Peranakan Afternoon Tea set with a stunning view of the city, or head to Quan’s Kitchen for traditional culinary specialties from Chinatown. To end the day, chinoiserie bar Jann offers inventive cocktails dedicated to the traditional trades of Chinatown with a panoramic view of the KL skyline for the ideal after-hours unwinding. Look out for the bar’s exclusive Best Brews™ program featuring a range of local brews for an experience like no where else.

“We look forward to welcoming our guests to experience the community’s revival through, honest cross-cultural food and beverage traditions, locally inspired design, and adventures within and beyond the hotel,” expressed Abhimanyu Singh, General Manager of the Four Points Sheraton Chinatown. The hotel is proof that the past and the future can meet in the middle beautifully. As the end of my stay approached, I remember looking out to the streets from the 7th floor eatery during breakfast, realizing just how much of this city’s rich cultural offerings I’ve yet to discover. And that was enough for me to already look forward to my next stay here.
