Known more popularly as an antique shop, The Gilded Lion is the new lifestyle destination. Fit for the culturally curious, The Gilded Lion brings forth a multi-concept warehouse style boutique except of remarkable historical pieces with stories just as extraordinary. The walls are dressed from ceiling to floor with frames of art, of all styles, genres and eras. From a dizzying range of abstract and portraiture, the walls of The Gilded Lion celebrated a worldly scope of diversity in heritage.

If one wandered a little deeper, The Gilded Lion is beyond an antique store with just framed art, mounted and hung. It is a contemporary library of the past that is ever so relevant in the lifestyles of the 21st century that is stepping into the era of millennials. Alike to fashion and the buzz of layering via pattern or print or print on texture – the same design philosophy applies to myriad of eclecticism in the Gilded Lion. Scatters of colourful gems made for the detailed eye.

Art does not have to be presented in a frame, art can be a dug out canoe from 1910, Netherlands that now stands as a modern sculpture, slabs of opulent marble that could be reimagined as wall shelves or assembled as a new-age vanity table, thick slices of Onyx stone in swirls of emerald reinterpreted as the new statement coffee table book. A hand weaved wool pictorial carpet from the nomadic culture of North Americans or the French in the 1950s draped and dressed as a majestic bed headboard. The new statement wall has been reinvented to curate the new “luxe living”.

The real story really lies in the Founder of the Gilded Lion, he is rich with stories and insights who wished not to featured or profiled in any way but goes by the name of 36 year old Zed Zulkifli. BAZAAR will be premiering a Web Exclusive three part series titled the The Gilded Lion Digital Series where we delve into sub-topics of Fashion, Culture and Literature and take visual journeys through the items as mentioned above. I hope to share through this experience, personal anecdotes of Zed’s craft and means of life as a collector, trader and historian.
