Hollywood may still be rewarding 2018’s best cinema, but up in Park City, Utah, they’re already looking ahead. This week marks the launch of the annual Sundance Film Festival, and with it, a whole new slate of independent films. Here, we round up the most hotly anticipated releases.

Late Night

Prepare for the onscreen pairing you didn’t know you needed: Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling. Katherine (Thompson) is a talk-show host whose career is threatened by the young upstart Molly (Kaling), the series’ first female staff writer who lands the job as part of a new diversity scheme. We’re expecting plenty of zinging one-liners in this odd-couple story, which, since it is produced and scripted by Kaling, is as apt a metaphor for today’s generational handover as any.
