The House is honoured to make its presence at the prestigious event

The 77th Cannes Film Festival that will take place until 25 May, officially kicked off on 14 May at the French Riviera, where Chanel stood proudly at this prestigious event by supporting various films, exemplifying its deep-rooted connection to cinema.

Chanel had supported several films long before. Christophe Honoré’s “Marcello Mio” has been supported by Chanel for its production, and it has been selected for the Official Competition with a release date in French cinemas on 22 May this year. The brand designed the wardrobe for a role played by Catherine Deneuve, where the star has maintained a tight relationship with Chanel over the years. The brand designed several costumes at the request of the director, who sought to create a strong and evocative wardrobe for the actress.

The House continued its dedication to cinema by backing Jessica Palud’s latest film, “Maria”, featuring Chanel ambassador Anamaria Vartolomei in the lead role. The actress had collaborated with Chanel since her Cannes debut in 2011. The brand has lent specific costumes to enhance the 1970s atmosphere of the film, with Vartolomei in one scene wearing a trouser suit and boots from the Fall-Winter 2023/24 Ready-to-Wear collection.

Additionally, Chanel also supported the productions including “Spectetaurs !”, a continuation of its ongoing collaboration with the director Arnaud Desplechin, and film “Megalopolis”, which will premiere on 16 May for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. 

The Maison was also involved in contributing to the restoration of two iconic films: Jacques Demy’s “The Umbrella of Cherbourg” (1964), where Catherine Deneuve wore a Chanel apricot pink tweed coat from Spring/Summer 1962 Haute Couture collection, and “Paris, Texas” by Wim Wenders. Both films are celebrating their 60th and 40th anniversaries respectively. These restorations align with Chanel’s commitment to preserving cinematic masterpieces to audiences all over the world. 

Throughout the festival, Chanel dresses its ambassadors and friends for their appearances that stunningly exude sophisticated elegance. During the Cannes Film Festival on 14 May, notable celebrities such as Taiwanese actress Ke-Xi Wu, French-Senegalese film director and screenwriter Ramata-Toulaye SY, and Chanel Ambassador Vicky Krieps graced the opening ceremony by wearing Chanel silhouettes.

The Taiwanese actress wore a pink, orange, and grey tones embroidered bustier dress from the Fall-Winter 2019/20 Haute Couture collection.

Ramata-Toulaye SY wore a fuchsia pink and white tweed vest, paired with straight pants from the Spring-Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection.
