Suzy, in her own time and in her own words.

Suzy doesn’t rush to fill the silence. And after over a decade in the public eye, that caution feels less like a cultivated art and more like an instinct. She’s been a singer and actress, an ambassador for the house of Celine, and a national sweetheart. These days, she’s content to be none of those things; or at least, more than those things.

In a matter of years, she was dubbed “the nation’s first love,” thanks to a breakout role in Architecture 101. Most people would buckle under the weight of such honour and stardom, yet Suzy has found a way to transcend it all. Now, Suzy sits in a different chapter. It may not be fully defined, but it definitely feels more rooted. We catch up with her here.

Has anything made you smile recently?
I smile pretty easily, but a reel I saw on Instagram recently really touched me and
brought a warm smile to my face. It was a video a daughter took of her dad, where he didn’t want to part with her dog. In the end, he ended up taking the dog back with him. It was such a lovely video.

How has your idea of beauty changed as time goes by? What do you find beautiful currently?
I’ve always believed that being beautiful is staying true to your own pace. As time goes on, I’ve come to realise just how difficult that can be.
What gives you a sense of calm?
I enjoy copying text by hand—it quiets my thoughts and brings me peace of mind.

Shirt; turtleneck; skirt; belt; socks; shoes, CELINE.
Are you more rational or emotional?
I’d say I’m both. In the past, I used to be more emotional. These days I’ve become a bit more rational.
How do you express yourself creatively?
I don’t consider myself a creative person. Instead, I tend to focus on how to effectively express the works or scripts that others have creatively made.

Jacket; shirt; trousers; belt, CELINE.
What makes you feel that creative work is meaningful?
It’s when I look at the result and feel that it’s something we all created together. That’s what feels meaningful to me.

Sweaters, CELINE.
How do you usually recharge after a long day?
If it feels like I’ve had a tough day, having a drink makes me feel like I’m being rewarded for getting through the day. And instead of just resting at home, I prefer to move around, wander here and there, and recharge by doing little things effortlessly.

Coat; trousers; socks; shoes, CELINE.
How do you mentally stay centred and maintain balance?
I try to remain objective and not consider everything as too special. Actually, I feel that way, too.

Sweater; turtleneck; trousers; bag, CELINE.
What kind of day do you consider to be a ‘good day’?
A day with no troubles, a day when nothing goes wrong. A peaceful day, a day with good weather, and a day when I’ve wrapped up my routine well.
