Bringing together more than 80 works by artists such as Caravaggio, René Magritte and Louise Bourgeois, the exhibition will display paintings, sculptures, goldsmiths’ work and ceramics, alongside contemporary photographs and video art. Many Shades of Grès, State Museums of Berlin, Berlin

art and fashion exhibitions

15 March – 11 October

Before the world knew her name, Germaine Émilie Krebs was already rewriting the rules. The woman who would become Madame Grès—couturière to Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich—treated fabric the way a sculptor treats marble: gathering meters of silk into breathtaking, body-hugging pleats inspired by classical antiquity. Now, Berlin’s Kunstgewerbemuseum is giving her the retrospective she deserves. Many Shades of Grès brings together 25 of her most extraordinary pieces alongside student reinterpretations, archival photography, sculpture, and digital installations—a full, immersive portrait of a designer who was, quite simply, in a category of her own.

Matisse, The Grand Palais, Paris

24 March – 26 July

Henri Émile Benoît Matisse was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour, cut-out forms and his draughtsmanship. In this exhibition, visual lovers will get to explore more than 300 paintings, drawings, books and cut-out gouaches—his works between 1941 and 1954. Detailing his journey as a free artist, the exhibition sheds light on his final years and how he invented a new language in the art world with space, intensity and colour.

Spanning the early 1980s to the 2000s, the exhibition features pieces from rarely seen private collections made possible by the collaboration with Peter Smithson and the Bowes Museum’s own collection. From mock-up calico toiles to deconstructed garments and archival pieces, this exhibition gives you a glimpse of Westwood’s artistry.

Known for his paintings and designs, he is a virtuoso in delicate open landscapes and gentle figures—showcasing a pinnacle of artistic perfection. The “Raphael: Sublime Poetry” exhibition is the first comprehensive exhibition, showcasing more than 170 of the artist’s greatest works—drawings, paintings, and tapestries from public and private collections across Europe and the United States—offering a singular chance to witness the visionary whose hand irrevocably altered the trajectory of art history.
