If someone asked you to the name some of the most-visited cities in Europe, we’d hazard a guess that the likes of London, Paris and Rome would come up first…

But what about the Turkish city of Antalya? Would that one spring to mind? Nope, we didn’t think so.

Well, you might be surprised to hear that this little-known resort is not only one of Europe’s most popular destinations, but also the world’s, Business Insider reports. At least if you look at the number of international tourists touching down there.

According to Euromonitor International’s Top 100 City Destinations Ranking 2017, which is compiled using data on international tourist arrivals, Antalya is actually the fourth most-visited in Europe, receiving over 10 million visitors every year.

As for the number one most-visited city on the planet? That honour goes to Hong Kong, which receives over 26 million tourists every year, according to the latest stats.

The Foreign Commonwealth Office advises that British tourists travelling to Turkey should not visit areas within 10km of the Syrian border. To read more advice on travel to Turkey, visit the Foreign Commonwealth Office website website website.
