Sir Kenneth Branagh gathered quite the starry cast for last year’s campy romp Murder on the Orient Express, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Dame Judi Dench, Josh Gad and Daisy Ridley.
He’s back directing and starring in the sequel, Death on the Nile, and it looks like the first big name actor is about to be cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gal Gadot is in talks — and very close to signing up — for the role of socialite Linnet Ridgeway/Doyle.
In the book, Linnet marries a man named Simon after he broke off an engagement with another woman called Jacqueline. As you’d expect from Agatha Christie, this love triangle ends in tragedy, and Hercule Poirot (and that ‘tache!) will be there to crack the case.
This is one of Gadot’s first roles since breaking through as Wonder Woman. She’s also nabbed herself a voice role in Wreck-It Ralph sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet and will be starring alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in a thriller heist called Red Notice.
The star is also returning for another solo outing as her Amazonian superhero with Wonder Woman 1984, which will star Bridesmaids‘ Kristen Wiig as the villain The Cheetah, while Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal has signed up for an as-yet unannounced secret role.
Both Death on the Nile and Wonder Woman 1964 are set to release in 2019.
