Images of the highly-anticipated Balmain x H&M collection have surfaced on Instagram ahead of their official 19 October press release date.
Instagram user Kathryn Swartz Rees posted 99 product images to her social media page on 6 October, including apparel, outerwear, footwear and accessories shots. However, Swartz Rees did not hack into the H&M database to gain access the top-secret collection. “The real story is terribly unexciting,” Swartz Rees explained to The Cut. “H&M’s site was indexed by Google and I happened to search at the right time using the right parameters. All images were taken from that H&M URL. No surprise, that site is no longer live. A good note to web development teams working on super hot designer collaborations: stay in your sandbox.”
H&M made a statement following the mishap: “Images from our Balmain x H&M collaboration have surfaced,” acknowledged the retailer. “We are pleasantly surprised by our fans’ positive reaction to the collection and we look forward to share more from the #HMBalmaination in the coming weeks.”
In true Olivier Rousteing style, the collection is full of Balmain hero-pieces including moto jackets, embellished mini-dresses and military-inspired blazers. It will be available from 5 November in 250 stores worldwide and on the H&M website. The newly surfaced images confirm that the collaboration will feature both menswear and womenswear clothes and accessories. One thing’s for certain: we cannot wait for the full collection to land.
