Chloe Sevigny made a surprise appearance on the Simone Rocha autumn/winter 2019 show. She formed part of hugely diverse line-up that represented different ages, ethnicities and shapes.

The actress and style icon wore a white dress dress styled with tights and black platform heels, her plum-coloured lipstick adding a subversive twist.

Writer and director Lily Cole came out of model retirement for the occasion for the first time in over five years, a coup in itself. The casting also included Helmut Newton muse Marie Sophie Wilson (her second catwalk turn for the brand), artist Conie Vallese, film-maker Clara Cullen, singer Evangeline Ling and 80s model Jeny Howorth.

Texan model-of-the-moment, the voluptuous Tess McMillan also featured, as did It models Adut Akech, Fran Summers and Primrose Archer.

In her show notes, Rocha said the collection – which was influenced by artist Louise Bourgeois – felt connected to the human body so it was important to her to reflect the female form in its different incarnations. Rocha’s show is unlikely to be trumped in terms of casting this season – a gold standard of what catwalk diversity looks like.
