- Since beginning her relationship with Prince Harry, Meghan has been developing a royal style of her own, which includes a lot of coat dresses.
The first photos of the royal baby are here, and he couldn’t be more adorable. Introducing Baby Sussex inside Windsor Castle, both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were beaming with pride as they showed their first child to the world.
As usual, Meghan looked effortlessly chic, wearing a smart white Grace Wales Bonner trench dress. The sleeveless look featured buttons on the front and a belt, and she accessorized the dress with a pair of BB Suede 70mm Pumps by Manolo Blahnik.
Of Meghan’s chic look, Twitter user @allthingsregal noted, “I thought I had seen Meghan’s dress before but what I noticed was she really does like the button down, sleeveless with collar style dress… new mom looked absolutely amazing, healthy, happy and glowing this afternoon!!!”

It’s true that Meghan has been developing her own style as a member of the royal family, especially when it comes to official photo calls. With a penchant for coat dresses, we’ve seen the Duchess of Sussex wearing similar looks before, most notably during the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017.
During the photo call, which took place in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden, Meghan wore a stylish white coat by Canadian brand Line the Label. For such an important occasion, it’s notable that Meghan selected a sharp coat dress—a look she has continued to embrace since joining the royal family.
During her first royal tour of New Zealand with Prince Harry in October 2018, Meghan opted for a white Maggie Marilyn tuxedo dress. The chic look has a lot in common with the coat dress she wore during Baby Sussex’s debut. From its front buttoning, to its sleeveless style, to its fitted shape, both the Maggie Marilyn dress, and the Grace Wales Bonner look, share a similar aesthetic:
Meghan has also worn trench dresses in other colors. Way back in February 2018, for her first official engagement alongside Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry, Meghan selected a navy belted satin wrap frock, which was also in a trench coat style, by Jason Wu. Although Meghan’s exact dress is sold out, you can still shop similar styles by the designer.
The duchess stepped out for a Commonwealth Youth Forum event with Prince Harry in April 2018, wearing Altuzarra‘s Audrey button-detailed ottoman midi dress. Sadly the pinstripe number has since sold out, but it’s clear that Meghan has been a fan of trench coat-inspired style for quite some time.
She also opted for a gorgeous blush pink sleeveless trench coat dress when she visited the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition at London’s Southbank Center in July 2018. The design featured black double-breasted buttons down the front and a tie waist belt, and was created by Canadian brand Nonie.
And for a visit to see Hamilton in London’s West End in August 2018, Meghan channeled Princess Diana by wearing a black tuxedo dress by Judith & Charles.
But it’s hard to deny that Meghan’s first appearance alongside her baby was the most adorable, and solidified her new royal style. Her latest trench coat look, which was designed by Grace Wales Bonner, was completed with her favored BB Suede 70mm Pumps by Manolo Blahnik and a delicate necklace by Jennifer Meyer.
Something tells us that this won’t be the last time we see Meghan in a chic trench coat dress, either.
