How Spicy Really Are the Sephora x TABASCO® Lip Plumpers?

Can You Take The Heat?

A Sephora and TABASCO® collaboration is not something you would typically expect to see. At first glance, it feels slightly absurd. But the more you think about it, the more it clicks. Lip plumpers have long been associated with that familiar tingling, almost spicy sensation, so pairing them with a brand synonymous with heat suddenly feels quite clever.

Are the Sephora x TABASCO® lip plumpers actually spicy? We tried all four heat levels to see how they compare and which one is worth it.

This limited edition launch takes Sephora’s Outrageous Plump formula and infuses it with chilli pepper extract, alongside hyaluronic acid to keep lips hydrated and smooth. The gloss promises not just shine, but a visibly fuller look. Each shade is inspired by a different level of heat, building from subtle warmth to something far more intense.

Naturally, we had to try them all.

Jalapeño

Thankfully not green once applied, this is the most approachable of the lot. The gloss goes on clear with a very subtle sheen. If you are already familiar with lip plumpers, you might barely register the tingle here. It is soft, almost whisper-light, and works more as a hydrating gloss with a hint of something extra.

Sriracha

This one introduces a touch more personality, both in colour and sensation. The translucent brown tint is understated but flattering, adding just enough warmth to the lips. There is a slight increase in the tingling effect compared to Jalapeño, though it remains very manageable. The plumping is visible but not dramatic, and the sensation fades fairly quickly, making it an easy step up.

TABASCO® Red

Things start to feel more familiar here. Inspired by the classic sauce, this shade delivers a sheer, glossy red with a more noticeable plumping effect. The tingling sits comfortably in that sweet spot, enough to feel like it is working without becoming distracting. It is also where the formula really shines. The gloss feels smooth, hydrating and not at all sticky, giving the lips a fuller look while remaining easy to wear. If you are choosing just one, this is likely the most universally appealing.

Extreme Heat

This is where things get serious. Packaged in a slightly intimidating black tube, it already hints at what is to come. I will admit, I passed this one over to our Associate Fashion Editor, Zue Wei, who bravely took it on. Interestingly, the heat does not hit immediately. It builds slowly, but once it arrives, it lingers far longer than the others. The tingling intensifies and stays put, giving a more pronounced plumping effect. It is not unbearable, but it is definitely one for those who enjoy pushing the limits.

Overall, what could have easily been a gimmick turns out to be surprisingly wearable. The range cleverly plays on the shared language of spice and sensation, while still delivering on what you actually want from a lip gloss: hydration, shine and a fuller-looking pout.
