Short haircuts can seem a little limiting in theory. You can't do buns or ponytails or updos, so it can feel like you lack the real estate to do anything fun or festive at all. These celebrities prove just how wrong that assumption is. With a few key accessories, products, and styling tips—or in the case of newly-pixied Cara Delevingne, spray paint, glitter, and fake hair—short haircuts can be as versatile as your imagination allows.

7. Part It Out

Jennifer Lawrence’s 2013 pixie cut landed her on every “best short hair of all time” list—but we’re particularly fond of how gracefully she grew it out. When it was still quite short, she brushed the layers forward to create wispy side bangs. When it was a little longer, she pushed it back in a voluminous style reminiscent of Princess Diana. And when her front layers were still too short to pull back, she flipped them over to one side to create a makeshift fringe.
