NADIRAH ZAKARIYA

Photographer

I take pride in my craft, through teaching master classes and exhibiting my work in art galleries. I started my career in photography in New York City, and even though the industry is very much a male-dominated one, I’ve been fortunate to be featured in magazines such as Vogue Italia and Elle Italia. It’s a great time for women artists, as people are more sensitive towards gender disparity and are willing to support us.

I hope to teach the creative process of photography, share my story, and inspire a young girl out there to pick up a camera. I find the notion of healing through self-portraiture very intriguing. People in the current digital age are obsessed with taking selfies, but no one is looking past the vanity aspect of it. It’s not easy to always feel comfortable in your own skin, but I’m proud of my achievements.

“Pride” is my word as a female artist, and it has taken me a long time to own that word. I hope that all women can be proud of their contributions towards society, and own their place in this world.
