Last season Dior’s “We should all be feminists” T-shirt became an instant hit, and it looks as if the brand’s latest message of female empowerment will follow suit. Although immediate reactions were divided (social media users questioned if the label was aware of artists such as Frida Kahlo and Tracey Emin), the wording was, in fact, the title of a 1971 essay penned by Linda Nochlin, which explores the topic of feminist art history. The essay explores the history of women having a difficult time achieving success in the arts – a relevant subject to explore now.
