According to five fashion experts.

Unlike clothes and shoes, jewelry isn’t always something you take on and off every day. That means it can veer more trend agnostic than, say, a handbag or a dress. But the top jewelry trends for winter 2021 are anything but subtle. Between the floral-inspired bling seen at Peter Do, Simone Rocha, and Acne; the statement collar necklaces at Fendi, Dior, and Paco Rabanne; and the return of fringe in metal form at Marni, Chanel, and Jil Sander, this season’s go-to jewels were made to turn heads.
“I believe jewelry is the fairy godmother of fashion,” says Sarah Slutsky, a celebrity stylist who works with clients like Ella Hunt and Elizabeth Olsen. “It can completely transform a look while also adding personal value to a wardrobe. At the same time, jewelry can lend an unexpected element of edge or grace depending on the look you’re trying to achieve.”
It also has the power to change the vibe of an outfit quicker than any other accessory: Try swapping out your dainty gold chain necklace and mini hoops for a pair of stacked chandelier earrings and see how your entire look (and mood) shifts. Ahead, find the top trends of the upcoming season, according to five fashion experts, plus their favorite necklaces, earrings, and rings to shop now.
Solange Franklin, Stylist
“If an outfit is a love letter, I think of jewelry as the signature,” says stylist Solange Franklin, who’s talents stretch across editorial, runway, and celebrity styling. Her favorite jewelry trend for the upcoming season? Mixed metals. “I like pieces that can layer together to create the effect or ones that have hybrid elements within.”
14kt Blue Topaz and Baroque Pearl Drop Earrings
Mateo
One of Franklin’s picks for the season, these one-of-a-kind earrings mix Baroque pearls and crystal-clear blue topaz for a luxe finish.
Khartoum II Ring with Onyx Inlay
Khiry
Next season’s biggest ring trend will be big and bold, so maybe place your dainty diamonds to the side for now. Designers like Miu Miu, Tory Burch, and Balenciaga showed that the statement ring is here to stay for winter and beyond.
The onyx inlay of this two-tone ring is what Franklin likes best about this one from Khiry.
14kt The Little Things Pearl and Diamond Crawlers
Mateo
These pearl-and-diamond crawlers can elevate any look instantly.
Angela Fink, Visual Consultant
From the glitz-heavy Paco Rabanne winter collection to the always shiny Oscar de la Renta, the message for the season is simple: You glow, girl. And the piece of choice to help you turn heads is the bold, look-at-me statement earring, Angela Fink says.
“I always default to a bold earring, and I think this winter, we are even seeing some glam rhinestones too,” says Fink, citing the bold gemstone necklaces seen at Paco Rabanne and the fringed, shoulder-grazing chandelier earrings at Saint Laurent. “We’ve been in our homes for a while; it’s time for some fun.”
Silver-Tone Fringed Crystal Earrings
Isabel Marant
Fink says she’s had these fringe earrings for three seasons and they never fail to upgrade her look in seconds.
Yellow Gold Curl Hoops
Bottega Veneta
“Of late, I like to add a chunky hoop to glam up my T-shirt-and-denim look,” says Fink, who loves these soon-to-be-everywhere Bottega Veneta hoops. “I feel put together, polished, but not trying too hard.”
Sculpted-Resin Hoop Earrings
Jil Sander
While a sculptured resin earring isn’t too far a departure from a gold hoop, Fink loves how unexpected it feels for winter.
Rachael Wang, Stylist
“As folks learn about the environmental and humanitarian toll of the mining industry, recycled metals are becoming more desirable,” says stylist Rachael Wang, who championed actionable sustainability before it was cool. “Jewelry is what makes an outfit feel uniquely personal, and taking into account how that jewelry is sourced only adds to the effect.”
Hinge Hoops in Gold
Machete
Ideal everyday hoops—Wang says these are a favorite of hers.
Treccia Necklace
Laura Lombardi
This necklace, another favorite of Wang’s, is hand-made from repurposed and vintage materials.
Upcycled Gold Wide Ring
Wonther
SlowCo’s bold, upcycled ring is on trend for the winter ahead.
Sarah Slutsky, Stylist
“I’ve really been loving the unexpected color pops from designers like Melissa Kaye and Bea Bongiasca,” says Sarah Slutsky, who adds that she’s seen colored stones making a comeback.
Flower Funk 9-Karat Gold, Silver, Enamel and Rock Crystal Ring
Bea Bongiasca
Florals for winter may not have the same ring, but at a time when any bit of optimism helps, we’ll take a touch of a flowery hue that’s reminiscent of spring. Winterize the trend seen on the fall runways at Peter Do, Simone Rocha, Prabal Gurung, and Alberta Ferretti by going slightly less literal with it, as seen here with a rose petal-pink ring.
The Four Image “Midi” Diamond Border Locket
Monica Rich Kosann
“I’ve been loving lockets, especially those from Monica Rich Kosann,” Slutsky says. “A locket is equally timeless and leans in to the ‘dark academia’ trend that we have been seeing a lot.”
Cristina Small 18-Karat Gold and Enamel Earrings
Melissa Kaye
“I love incorporating color into a completely tonal look,” Slutsky, who loves the two-tone hue of these Melissa Kaye earrings, says.
Meeka Hossain, Content Creator
“One of the biggest jewelry trends I’ve seen and love is the resurgence of pearls in everyday wardrobes,” Meeka Hossain, a content creator living in Los Angeles, says. “They’ve made a comeback into our daily outfits in the form of chokers, anklets, earrings, and more.”
Amarilo
A dainty pearl pendant can add a touch of sophistication to any minimalist winter outfit.
Cult Gaia
Chokers have always enjoyed the occasional resurgence, but this time, they’re more glam than punk. Labels like Dior, Fendi, and Acne all showed us how elegant—and transformative—the right choker necklace can be. The former tucked logo-adorned chokers under collars for a subtler look, while the latter went more literal with the trend. Hossain loves to style this choker “with a cool oversized blazer, bralette top, and baggy jeans or midi skirt.” See here.
