The Gucci Cosmos exhibition in Shanghai celebrates the House’s 102-year history.
Gucci takes us on an adventure through the House’s 102-year history with their first Gucci Cosmos exhibition in Shanghai. The immersive exhibition kickstarts its journey at the fashion hub of China before traversing the world. “A love letter to Gucci’s Florentine roots” and its enduring creativity, the exhibition explores Gucci’s rich heritage and iconic designs rooted in Italian craftsmanship and tradition.
The exhibition was conceived by British contemporary artist Es Devlin and curated by eminent Italian fashion theorist and critic Maria Luisa Frisa. Together, they created eight “worlds” filled with treasures from the Gucci Archive (many previously unseen) to showcase Gucci’s unwavering principles and journey since its founding in 1921.
“The Gucci Cosmos exhibition is an immersive experience in which the House’s origin story and its history are continuously put to the test by the imagination of the future.”—Maria Luisa Frisa
The first of eight worlds, Portals takes us back to history of the House’s founding father, Guccio Gucci and his time working at The Savoy Hotel in London. Revolving doors are a subtle nod to the hotel’s entrance and the room features three circular moving carousels. A wide array of exquisite luggages are on display, including signature suitcases designed by Guccio in the late 1920s.
