The Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024 show was held in Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore in Italy.

Dive into an aquatic sci-fi world with Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024. The show was set to take place on the magical landscape of Isola Bella—belonging to the Borromeo family—but nature had its own ideas, shifting the fashion pack indoors instead. The first few looks that opened the show set the theme accordingly: scuba-inspired pieces, which were, oddly enough, suited to the temperament of the weather, made their way through the winding pavements of the lush 17th century garden. Some were styled with towering headpieces that lent a mystical charm to the theme. According to Vogue, Ghesquiere said, “We started with the idea that the girls were coming from the water, like mermaids of the lake, and they’re transforming to something else”.

Through the garden came iridescent skirts with pailettes that mirrored the pearl-like sheen of nacre; deliberate crinkled dresses that gave the illusion of dampened clothing; and ethereal embellished numbers dripped in shimmery motifs of aquatic life. In keeping with the notion of Ghesquiere’s “drifting creatures” discovering the joys of “terrestrial wonders”, contemporary pieces such as jumpers, coats and sturdy footwear grounded the collection to reality. Elsewhere, Baroque influences—a nod to the scenic location—came in the form of masks and brocades. Finally, Ghesquiere concluded his fairytale show with pastel dresses that drove the narrative home. Seven sculptural yet delicate dresses closed the show, some with puffy princess sleeves and ruffles of delicate fabric that called to mind aquatic nymph-like goddesses drenched in sea foam.
