Millennials Are Buying Luxury Bags Again, Thanks To One Key Brand

Gucci is the most popular destination for designer bags among millennials, according to a new report.

The brand has seen a 595 percent increase in full-price sell-outs in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016, reports WWD. This contrasts with a study published last year that said millennials were less concerned with brand names when it comes to luxury bags with a bigger focus on quality and style. The younger generation are reportedly more considered when it comes to choosing a bag, taking longer to decide which to buy.

Well, it looks as if Gucci has managed to crack the code – incorporating unique, distinguishable signatures with quality materials.

“For millennials, these kind of [luxury items] represent better value as they’re a way to affiliate with a brand or lifestyle but can be worn across multiple looks and in different stylings,” said Katie Smith, senior retail editor at Edited, the retail analysis organisation that conducted the study.

The research attributed Gucci’s brightly embellished animal, insect and reptile motifs as the factor that appealed to millennial consumers.

Other brands that were found to appeal to the same age bracket were Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana.
