Meet the New Generation of Models Who Are Taking Fashion by Storm

As we witness the rise of fashion weeks, runway shows, and fashion campaigns, it’s no surprise that the world of modelling remains among the most prominent industries in fashion. With models serving as icons for generations to come, their participation is nothing short of legendary.

Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Yasmeen Gauri are a few of the names that dominated the industry in the ’90s and continue to do so today, being labelled as some of the iconic models of all time.

VS angels Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Behati Prinsloo and Alessandra Ambrosio were some of the faces of Victoria’s Secret in the 2000s when the brand’s iconic angel wings soared in the great heights of fashion. Additionally, the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was also one of the most anticipated events of the year.

During the Autumn/Winter 2022 show at Milan Fashion Week, Avanti Nagrath became the first Indian model to open a Versace show. Born and raised in Delhi, India, Avanti’s love for the camera began at a young age. She first started modelling at the age of 15, having modelled for several Indian fashion houses, such as Manish Malhotra and Rahul Mishra, before breaking into the international scene, where she walked the runways of Bottega Veneta, Jacquemus, and Givenchy, among others.

Holding the record for walking the most fashion week shows between 2022-2023, Sherry Shi began her modelling career at 16 and has worked with some of the industry’s biggest names. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Sherry is signed with IMG Models agency and has graced the runways of several shows, including Moschino, Michael Kors, Kenzo and Stella McCartney.

Upon being scouted at a music festival, Canadian model Mathieu Simoneu’s career began at 16. Following his initial career, Mathieu took a two-year hiatus from modelling to pursue his studies at the University of Toronto before making his strongest comeback to the scene. Upon his return, he worked with brand campaigns, including Tom Ford, Thome Browne and Calvin Klein. Mathieu is a regular at Fashion Week, having walked for shows including BOSS, Versace, Prada and Balmain.

A French model of South Indian Heritage whose roots hail from Puducherry, India, Ashley Radjarame’s first glimpse into modelling started with Prada when she was featured in their resort campaign and Spring/Summer 2020 show. Born and raised in Rueil, a suburb outside Paris, Ashley was scouted by a casting agent in London. Following her Prada debut, she has been involved in several runway shows, including Simone Rocha, Jacquemus and Gaurav Gupta, and has also featured in campaigns, such as Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton and Nina Ricci eyewear.

5) Alton Mason

Alton Mason is an American model, who notably became the first black male model to walk in a Chanel show in 2018. A passionate dancer, Alton enrolled at the American Musical Dramatic Arts Academy in Los Angeles at the age of 17. Alton’s big break came when he was scouted on Instagram and approached to be part of Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 2 show at New York Fashion Week. He later worked with Alessandro Michele, former creative director of Gucci, and launched himself as a supermodel in Michele’s pre-fall campaign. Over the years, Alton has walked countless runway shows, featured in numerous campaigns and even went on to play the role of ‘Little Richard’ in the Elvis biopic in 2022.

6) Malick Bodian

Model and photographer Malick Bodian moved to Europe when he was 13 years old, from Senegal. Discovered by an agent at the age of 19, Malick’s career started with walking the Valentino Fall/Winter show in 2018. Since then, he has walked the ramps of fashion shows and featured in campaigns for several brands, including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Saint Laurent and Jil Sanders, to name a few. Bodian is also a photographer who often documents his travels and photographs for various magazines and campaigns.
