In a blink of an eye, the Oscars of fashion – Met Gala 2023 – is finally here. The most anticipated and star-studded event honoured one of fashion’s greatest talents, Karl Lagerfeld, so it’s no surprise that stars and celebrities rocked the red carpet like never before.

This year’s theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which coincides with the opening of The Costume Institute’s new spring exhibition of the same name. The exhibition will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from 5 May to 16 July. The exhibition will pay tribute to Lagerfeld’s unparalleled contributions to the fashion realm. 

There was plenty to see on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Dressed to the nines, a-listers such as Penélope Cruz, Lily Collins and Jennie from Blackpink attended this prestigious event with stunning monochrome and elaborate ensembles. From voluminous sleeves, dramatic trains, white camellia flowers and tweed, all of the looks paid homage to the iconic designer.

Numerous stars wore vintage couture on the night, including Naomi Campbell and Nicole Kidman. Even official co-host Dua Lipa dipped into Lagerfeld’s archives, with a bridal look originally worn by Claudia Schiffer on the Autumn Winter 1992 Chanel runway. There were unexpected style moments and we loved every second of it.
