The Pirelli Calendar will undertake a drastic new vision as it’s announced that Tim Walker will be its 2018 photographer.
Last year, the iconic calendar underwent a radical makeover under the eyes of Peter Lindbergh, who scrapped its associated overt sexiness and exotic locations in favour of a softer, more natural approach. Muses included Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Uma Thurman. The 2016 calendar, shot by Annie Leibovitz, was the first to abandon the naked supermodels notion entirely, focusing on strong women who have “achieved something”.
Walker’s approach to the calendar will be a visual spectacle. His work is characterised by its extravagant staging, romantic motifs and fantastical images, and he’s known as one of fashion’s foremost, most exciting photographers.
The images will be shot next week in London, although the concept is a closely guarded secret. Names of his subjects will be released later this summer.
