We’re meeting the liars again
Based on E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel of the same name, Prime Video’s book-to-screen adaptation of We Were Liars was an instant hit, captivating audiences and critics alike with its raw, emotionally gut-wrenching storytelling and jaw-dropping plot twists—so it comes as no surprise that the series has been renewed for a second season. Prime Video has just unveiled the exciting new cast members set to join the Sinclair world.

Season one of We Were Liars was centred around a group of four teenagers known as “the Liars”—Cadence, Gat, Johnny, and Mirren—who spend their summers together on the family’s private island, off the coast of Massachusetts. However, one summer, Cady struggles to remember events from her past after suffering a terrible accident. For season two, we see the story takes a bold new direction, flashing back two and a half decades before the events of Cady’s accident, drawing inspiration from E. Lockhart’s Family of Liars, the gripping prequel novel to We Were Liars.
What will we see in season two?
According to Amazon Prime Video, “In an effort to confront her truth, Cadence returns to Beechwood. As she digs deeper into family secrets, she learns about the Sinclair Sisters’ summer of 1999—a summer rife with first love, rivalry, and even murder. In flashbacks, we see Carrie, Penny, and Bess navigate their own teenage summer, as they come to terms with their past in the present day.”

Who is in the cast?
Josh Dallas (Manifest), Costa D’Angelo (Tell Me Lies), Peyton List (The Rookie), Madison Wolfe (True Detective), Parker Lapaine (House of the Dragon) and Elysia Roorbach (The Pitt) have been cast as series regulars for season two.
Original cast members Emily Alyn Lind (Gossip Girl) and Joseph Zada (Sunrise of the Reaping) will be returning for season two—alongside Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King and David Morse.
Who is producing it?
The adaptation will be created by Carina Adly MacKenzie and Julie Plec, with author E. Lockhart serving as executive producer. “MacKenzie and Plec have big, big plans for season Two, including everything readers of my books are dying to see onscreen — and a lot of surprises as well,” said E. Lockhart.
When will it be released?
There’s no official date yet—but production is expected to begin in summer 2026. So, we’re hoping season two will premiere in 2027.
