Mystery, thriller and a dose of Hudson Williams? We’re in.
Fresh off the sensational Crave series, Heated Rivalry, Hudson Williams has signed on to star in a mystery-thriller series. Based on the play by Canadian playwright Kat Sandler, Yaga will feature Sandler as writer and showrunner, bringing the play to the screens for the very first time. Alongside Williams, Carrie-Anne Moss, who rose to fame in the Matrix franchise, will be joining the upcoming thriller series.
You may be wondering: What is Yaga? The show explores the myth of Baba Yaga—a prominent figure in Slavic folklore. Often described as a gaunt, old woman or, in other words, a witch, this complex character lives in a hut that stands and walks on giant chicken legs in the forest. It is also said that Baba Yaga acts as either a dangerous villain or a magical helper to heroes.
In the play, Sandler explores themes of feminist reclamation, ageism, and power. While you can expect these explorations of themes, the upcoming series centres on reshaping the wicked witch into a revolutionary feminist antihero of our time.
“It reflects the kind of storytelling I love: propulsive, accessible, dark, funny, and unapologetically bold. I’m incredibly excited to bring Crave’s first-ever half-hour drama to life alongside longtime collaborator Mackenzie Donaldson, Front Street Pictures, Blink49, and Bell Media,” Sandler said in a statement.
What is Crave Original’s mystery thriller series Yaga about?
According to Variety, “Yaga” centres on Rapp (Noah Reid), “a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Hudson Williams). He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson (Clark Backo), a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss), and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic.”
Who is set to star in Yaga?
As of today, Crave Canada has announced Carrie-Anne Moss, Hudson Williams, Noah Reid and Clark Backo as the official cast of the upcoming series.

The series is set to run for eight episodes.
