The contemporary art genius KAWS aka. Brian Donnelly has partnered with Thai lifestyle giant Central Embassy and those planning a trip to Bangkok are in for a treat. A sibling to his “Companion” sculptures that have been exhibited around the world, the installation “BFF” was unveiled on the 30 of June and standing at 8 metres tall, is KAWS’ biggest sculpture to date. “BFF” is KAWS’ first installation in South East Asia and is the product of a collaboration with Hong Kong based AllRightsReserved, who helped to curate past installations in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Wondering whether who will take me home today. Bye soon @siwilaistore! #CentralEmbassy #KAWSBFF

“BFF” features Donnelly’s trademark soft skull with crossbones and x-ed out eyes and pays homage to the all-time kids favourite Cookie Monster, apt given it is an acronym for “Best Friend Forever”. In conjunction with this debut, there is an exhibition of editioned prints showcasing KAWS’ artistic developments over the years but the limited number of “BFF” themed tees, umbrellas, tote bags and the highly coveted 20-inch plush toys understandably sold out within two and a half hours.
This new installation will be on display until 31 July 2016 and if this is any indication of the future of Central Embassy, we can’t wait to see what is in store next!
